I found my feedback. Tells me I put title wrong and page size wrong. No feedback on my actual story. What a waste of 3 days. Think that’s the end for me! Sudden change from excited to read critique to v demotivated 😢
Detailed feedback will take a while. They have to read a lot of stories (more than once) and share the feedback with the team who will post them to our respective docs.
Practice event is to help you get the formatting right first (and then get full-length feedback).
Do check out the formatting again. Once you get a hang of it, the entire process is every easy. Don't give up.
Hi Yoana, if you're registered, you received a Welcome Email on May 6 or 7 with the link to your feedback document. If you can't find it, you need to email Theresa for help.
@The Writer's Workout Hello! I don't seem to have received a Welcome Email on the following dates. Would you please tell me which email should I contact in order to sort things out on time? Thank you in advance!
I'm so sorry to hear that you feel your time was wasted. You wrote a whole story in three days, that's incredible and definitely something to be proud of.
The Practice Event is just practice, an opportunity to help ease you into the competition. The formatting notes are intended to help you improve, as is any feedback we provide. It's important to follow submissions directions no matter where you send your work; The Writer's Workout differs from most other places because we actually tell you what happened with your piece so you can succeed the next time.
Even if it's not for The Writer's Games, I do hope you continue writing.
Hi, my piece was too long to be marked (a silly error on my part -rushing to meet the deadline), so I didn't get any feedback on the content of the story. One of the things I wanted to use the practice event to find out was whether it was okay to include a quote from another book or poem as an precursor and thematic introduction to the story - just for my future reference - is this allowed?
Technically, using a quote as a precursor is accepted as long as it's properly attributed but we advise against it. That opening quote can sometimes become a crutch, so your writing style may be dependent on that quote for that piece. Additionally, it does set your participant number apart from others because it's easily recognizable as "the one who starts with a quote". We want to protect your anonymity in scoring as much as possible so the judges' comments are focused on your content.
I am new and made a mistake with my title and scene break so I received that feedback earlier but my note added that additional feedback would come later. I received helpful feedback from several judges. I am grateful for the time you all took with my story, especially since it was technically disqualified. I will ensure I get those details right this time! It is helpful to know what mistakes we made. Many publishing houses will toss your MS if you don't follow their formatting guidelines exactly and you don't know what you did wrong, you just never hear back. This helps us to pay attention to those important details for when we do submit our work and it helps us to know where we 'missed the mark'. So thanks again!!! Happy tomorrow is a holiday here so I can edit again before submitting! Happy writing to all!
Theresa replies to every email daily, usually within 6 hours. Make sure your email went to the correct address (theresa.green@writersworkout.net) and please be patient.
I've received feedback about formatting but nothing about my actual story. Is that normal? For some reason I expected the feedback to be about our writing rather than the rules. Has everyone else received the same?
Formatting notes are only offered during the Practice Event and sent to every registered participant who submitted. Entries we were able to judge also received detailed feedback from the judges. If you have a question about feedback from the judges specific to your entry, you should email Theresa so she can keep your name private from the judges.
It became okay to consist of a quote from any other e book or poem as an precursor and thematic introduction to the story. read this blog - just for my future reference - is this allowed?
In most cases, that's okay... but the way Writer's Games is setup, it can quickly set your entry apart in an identifiable way, leading the judges to know which entry is yours. They might not know your name due to our blind judgement system but you'll become "that one who opens with a quote". For the purposes of The Writer's Games, it's probably better for your own scoring protection to avoid the practice of opening with a quote.
Additionally, it can sometimes be viewed as a crutch, where readers feel the author was too reliant on someone else's words to set the tone for their own piece.
It will posted in the Google feedback doc they sent you. It should be in your mail. I bookmark the doc for easier access.
Thank you. I’ll try to work this out. I’m finding it all a bit confusing 😞

@Srivalli Rekha Mantrala thanks for your kindness 🙂
Hi, @Ann Walton! Did you receive the feedback as an email, because I still haven't got mine and I'm getting kind of worried. Thank you!

Okay that's very helpful thank you! I will submit something within the word limit this time!!

I’ve had no feedback :( I’ve mailed Theresa and am
hoping to get a reply soonest. Want to make sure this next piece is perfectly formatted.

@The Writer's Workout Ok thanks. Hopefully I'll get this next one right!
Last question I promise!! When I save my document to attach to the email, should it be called my own title, or the Event title, or all?
You can name your file anything you want.
@The Writer's Workout Thank you 😁
I learned by reading this forum that I should have received a link to a feedback document. I have not ever received it.
It should've been attached to your welcome email. Mine was sent on May 7th and was titled "Welcome to the Writer's Games"
