When I write, I have to do it by hand; I need to use a pencil (pens require too much commitment) and have to write in a spiral notebook. I even hand-write my essays for school before typing them up. Do you have specific writing quirks? A favorite notebook, writing utensil, hot beverage, superstition, etc.?

That's so great that you still use pencil and paper! I feel like I'm much more boring... I use my computer, play some classical piano music, light a candle, and just let inspiration hit. I wish my answer were more exciting!
I'm very much a computer drafter -- even the pencil feels to final for me! I always listen to jazz, have copious scrap paper for scribbling ideas or notes, and am insistent on taking walks when I get stuck. Not sure about anyone else, but I also cannot write from my bed. I just bought a vintage desk so I'll have a new workspace soon!
I'm the kind of person who would sketch out the story or organize the story flow on paper before typing up the actual story on my computer. I like having the story sketch being easily viewable while I write my story. Sometimes I would tape the paper on the wall behind my computer so all I need to do is look up! I also like writing my story in the library. The productivity surrounding me allows me to limit the amount of time I procrastinate. However, if I type on my bed, I find myself more often than not passing out on my computer!
I cannot use a pencil! Maybe because I'm a bit of a mess when I write, but if I'm not typing, I need a pen. It's smoother, I guess.
On the occasion that I do write with pens (like when I take notes or don't have access to my computer) I have to write with a black ink Bic pen that has a cap. If it's not black, doesn't have a cap, or isn't Bic, I just can't write. I don't know why.
I'm a big pen and journal person! I love using a G2 pen and one of my cute journals (I have too many). There's something about drafting on a computer that feels less productive to me. My favorite is when I can flip through 3 or 4 drafts of my poems and see what I've crossed out, added, and changed to get to the final.
