When I get stuck in my writing, I often turn to art for inspiration. Flipping through a favorite art book always brings me new ideas: a painting can launch a story, a sculpture can spark a poem. Has art inspired your writing? How do you find new ideas?

This is an interesting question. There is an art museum near my university that I would go to for inspiration whenever I need new ideas for poems. I would initially pick a sculpture or painting and try describing it without directly mentioning the picture and see where it goes from there. This always causes me to write several drafts. For stories, I usually take anything I can get from my surroundings, whether it's an interesting scenario I saw on T.V., something I read in the news, an interesting situation I read in a book, or something I did with friends on a Thursday night. I sometimes might be intrigued by something that was said by a passerby (nothing too personal) and jot down a few words they said for a new story!
I also love going to museums to find inspiration! It can be great to just sit in front of a painting and write whatever comes to mind. Such a calming activity!
ohhhhh, I've never thought of doing this. I had a poetry class where we had to write a poem based on a piece of art in the art gallery, but that's about it. I mainly get inspiration when I'm doing yoga. Ideas just pop into my head. Who knows where they come from?? lol Sometimes, I'm listening to an audiobook and some part of it sparks an idea in my brain that's completely different than the book I'm listening to.
I don't do yoga, but I often get ideas for stories or poems when I'm out taking walks. I think physical activity definitely helps me stay creative.
I've gone to museums to look for writing inspiration, and came away with some poems that I really liked! When I was little, I liked to flip through art books with pictures of landscapes too. I think they were supposed to be inspiration for painters, but I was mostly interested in making up stories about the people who might live there (I guess some things never change, right?). Art books that show you how to draw different characters can be really great tools for inspiration, too!
I love painting, and have been in art therapy in the past. In high school I decided to use these paintings and create poems or creative nonfiction pieces that explained or related to the paintings I made. By doing this I came up with some of my favorite poems I've written. Art is a great inspiration, especially when you have created it yourself!
I like admiring christian art or islamic art. They are both profoundly different yet both so compelling and beautiful. They tell different stories that I can extract. Overall I admire simplicity and sometimes the best stories or ideas are the ones that are both intimate and simple. What does a certain art say about the human perspective, about the human existence.
