Since we're all writers, we all know that dreaded writer's block from time to time. When I'm stuck, I use character prompts to get into a creative zone. What are some of your favorite prompts?
One of my all time favorite writing prompts is from Steering the Craft by Ursula K. Le Guin. The exercise is called The Old Woman, the prompt is to write a scene in which on old woman is doing something, anything, while intercutting between two times, the present activity and a memory from the past. I think it's a great way to practice developing a character backstory and managing multiple timelines. Plus, it's a lot of fun.
I really love prompts! I think one of my favorites is to do a random word generator for three words and then write a scene incorporating each of those words, like a place/setting, the atmosphere/an adjective, and an object or noun. For one of my stories, I got "concession," "Gothic," and "cellar" and it helped me come up with an entire scene and inciting incident. The words can also be really minor and you can take them out later if they aren't relevant anymore, but it helps me to create an environment in the story to work around in and feel inspired.

I like using a line of poetry as my first line/sentence and working from there.

Oh I love prompts. The weirder the better, especially if it gets me out of my comfort zone.
