WayWords is now accepting submissions for issue 2. We're looking for fiction short stories and poems with a central theme of "heritage". You can submit up to 5,000 words or two poems for this section.
We're also accepting creative nonfiction on the subject of "teachers" for our tribute section! You can submit up to 5,000 words.
Explore more submissions details, rights information, and even find a tip from our editors to help inspire as you explore what heritage means to you.
Click here to visit the WayWords page or find it under the Publications section of our menu.
We love freelancers and we want to help promote you! To celebrate Freelance Writer Appreciation Week (February 7-13), we're showcasing your self-published work. To see your work here and in our special mailer in February, email us: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Include your book cover image, a link to purchase your book, and a brief synopsis (up to 40 words). Send us information about your poetry, prose, or nonfiction. Limit one book* per author. You're welcome to include up to two social/blog/website links if you'd like but we will not include author bios with your work. We'll accept emailed submissions until January 31.

Achievements, Subscriptions, and Feedback, oh my!
We're looking forward to positive and powerful things in 2021 so we devoted the last ten weeks of 2020 to some pretty incredible changes (I'm not biased). Our amazing team of volunteers almost doubled in 2020 and we're grateful for their time and inspiration every day.
We've been hard at work mapping out a brand new schedule, developing hundreds (you read that right) of new challenges, and creating tons of opportunities to help you be a better writer.
Here's what The Writer's Workout offers in the new year:
Achievement Tracker – an amazing spreadsheet designed to help you track your progress throughout the year. Record your writing, editing, submissions, and publications, this Tracker will organize everything and highlight your successes so you can stay focused on goals, learning, and growth as a creative writer.
Also available as a standalone service.
Better Writer Challenge – a quarterly challenge to explore a facet of writing in-depth. Winners receive feedback and a cash payment dependent on the prize pool. $5 entry fee per submission.
Better Writer Subscription Service – includes a quarterly entry voucher to the Better Writer Challenge, members-only forum section, The Writing Arcade, Achievement Tracker, and feedback on one piece per month up to 3,000 words.
The Writer's Games – a series of six weekly prompts (called Events), short deadlines, feedback for every entry, blind judgement, and published winners. Advance registration is required; this competition is free.
The Writing Arcade – a self-paced, arcade-style writing opportunity full of prompts, blind judgement, points-based advancement, and feedback for every submission. Choose a path and quest, set your own difficulty, create, submit, improve!
Available through the Better Writer Subscription Service only.
WayWords – a quarterly literary journal with a central theme.

Schedule Changes for 2021
The Writer's Workout is moving to a new quarter system! Each quarter, we'll focus on topics suggested during the previous quarter. This gives you a LOT more direct influence over our focused discussions.
Look for a motivational quote accompanying each topic discussion. Quotes give us something to consider as we learn from each other.
Forum-based picture prompts begin January in the Writing channel. We'll see a different picture prompt every month so you can post your creation and read other interpretations!
