Hey there!

September loves learning! We're gushing over the beauty of perpetual learning this month and understanding what learning looks like for different people.

Read more on our blog on Thursday.

I am ridiculously excited to discuss Writer's Games '24 in our September 9 #WriteChat on discord. I can't wait to hear your thoughts, discuss options, answer questions, and start planning our next portion!

We're looking forward to a new Back to Basics course on the "ear" of writing later this month.

Join us September 22 to read the Fiction Potluck winning entries selected by our guest judge, Riley Kilmore. Check out the finalist bios on the Potluck page, available now!

I'm making my way through Tales of the Strange submissions and reaching out to writers as I go. If you submitted for this anthology, expect to hear from me before Halloween.

We're excited to be recommended by Reedsy for the second year in a row for running one of the best writing contests.

This award recognizes Fiction Potluck!

Check it out quarterly in

January, April, July, and October.

General Updates:

We are growing and I'm drowning in the full redesign of this website (all gazillion pages). I've made some superficial updates to roughly half the pages but am nowhere near close to finished. I made a public log so you can keep up with my progress. Plans for this update include visual changes, reorganization, and lots of content updates. If you have any suggestions for features you'd like to see, please reach out

Writer's Games—we announced at the end of last year that we're taking a break from this competition and the internship program for the 2023 calendar year.

If you earned guaranteed registration (winning, deferment, waiting list) in 2022, we are saving your space for 2024. I have not fully updated the Writer's Games pages yet.

Fiction Potluck—we launched a new competition! Potluck is quarterly, free, and open to writers around the world. A guest judge sets the challenge and the WW team selects finalists from the entries. We'll feature these finalists on the Fiction Potluck page while the guest judge chooses the top three winners. Each of the top three pieces will be published on our blog.

Read the July winners on September 22!

New challenge starts October 1.

Discordwe launched a Discord server with tons of difference channels to chat with your fellow writers. We'll host a dedicated #WriteChat on the second Saturday of every month, starting at 7pm (UTC). Spread the word!

If the Discord link is broken, contact us for a personalized invite.

Happy writing!
