Are you passionate about the written word? Are you interested in helping other writers learn and grow their craft? The Writer's Workout is expanding so we're looking for creative individuals to add to our team in a remote capacity.

Please understand that all positions with The Writer's Workout are considered "spare time" with room to grow. An estimate is provided. Each position is volunteer until funding is available. Applicants must have a strong desire to help other writers improve.

The Writer's Workout is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Founded in 2014 with just 44 members, The Writer's Workout is now global with members in more than twenty countries across six continents. We strive to provide a motivating atmosphere that fosters self-growth and development through encouraging language and education. We want to help you be a better writer.

 

Grant Writer

Administrative

The Writer's Workout seeks an experienced grant writer to obtain funding for a global education organization for literacy through creative writing. This position is commission-based.

This position reports to Cindy McWilliams and Theresa Green.

DUTIES:

  • Researches grant writing opportunities for educational organizations.

  • Writes grants and secures funding for The Writer's Workout.

  • Previous grant writing experience a must.

Account Manager

Brand

The Writer's Workout seeks organized account managers to cultivate relationships with affiliates and sponsors to foster The Writer's Workout growth. 

This position reports to Sarah Perchikoff.

DUTIES:

  • B2B communications with affiliates and sponsors.

  • Researches potential affiliates and sponsors.

  • Works with all departments to promote community activities and events.

  • Fosters a motivating environment and encourages participation/discussion about topics.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • B2B communications experience preferred.

  • Marketing experience a plus.

  • Social Media marketing best practices a plus.

  • Self-starter.

  • Demonstrates clear understanding of the purpose of The Writer's Workout.

  • Must be willing to donate time initially (until funding is available), about 5 hours per month.

The Writer's Workout seeks a literacy-oriented graphic artist to create media for multiple departments.

This position reports to Sarah Perchikoff.

DUTIES:

  • Creates shareable images that are on-message and brand-centric.

  • Ensures brand recognition.

  • Creates cover images for anthologies and other publications.

  • Fosters a motivating environment and encourages participation/discussion about topics.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Exceptional organizational skills required.

    • Graphic design degree a plus.

    • Familiarity with KDP a plus. 

  • Self-starter.

  • Demonstrates clear understanding of the purpose of The Writer's Workout.

  • Must be willing to donate time initially (until funding is available), around 5-10 hours a month.

Challenge Coordinator

Education

​The Writer's Workout seeks literary-minded educators to manage and develop regular writing challenges with a goal of personal growth. 

This position reports to Theresa Green.

DUTIES:

  • Works with the team to develop inspiring challenges across a range of genres.

  • Judges and critiques entries.

  • Researches writing best practices and trends.

  • Encourages personal growth in writers around the world. 

  • Fosters a motivating environment and encourages participation/discussion about topics.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Deadline oriented.

    • Experience with GSuite a plus.

  • Degree in Creative Writing strongly preferred.

    • Degree in progress is accepted when accompanied with successful completion of WW internship program. ​

  • Self-starter.

Education

The Writer's Workout seeks an organized, research-centric writer to curate a list of writing contests worldwide.

This position reports to Amy Hickman. 

DUTIES:

  • Researches information on open writing contests.

  • Reviews external submissions of contest information.

  • Promotes upcoming contests.

  • Light R&D with Education team.

The Writer's Workout seeks an organized, research-centric writer to create scripts and assist with our educational YouTube channel.

This position reports to Jake Reilly. 

DUTIES:

  • Researches information for writing-related topics.

  • Writes scripts for educational videos.

  • Assists with video production.

  • Other, as needed.

Full Stack Developer

IT

​The Writer's Workout seeks an experienced web developer to maintain both back-end and front-end materials for this website.

This position reports to Theresa Green.

DUTIES:

  • Creates and maintains website for The Writer's Workout.

  • Works with Education team to publish educational content to website in easily accessible and inviting format.

  • Works closely with the Executive Director to produce The Writer's Games.

  • Works with Community Liaison and Director of Social Media to promote and maintain an inviting and motivating environment.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required, college/university preferred.

  • JavaScript AND CSS preferred.

  • Self-starter.

  • Demonstrates clear understanding of the purpose of The Writer's Workout.

  • Must be willing to donate time initially (until funding is available), about 10-15 hours per month.

Editor

Publications

The Writer's Workout seeks an editor to assist in production processes for publications including our Tales and 72 Hours of Insanity series and our quarterly literary journal, WayWords. 
This position reports to Georgia Yindra.

DUTIES:

  • Edits submissions for all publications.

  • Works with Acquisitions to develop new anthology ideas. 

  • Researches writing best practices and trends.

  • Fosters a motivating environment and encourages participation/discussion about topics.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High level editorial skill.

    • Experience with Google Docs a plus.

  • Self-starter.

  • Demonstrates clear understanding of the purpose of The Writer's Workout.

  • Must be willing to donate time initially (until funding is available), about 10 hours per month.

The Writer's Workout seeks a community-oriented writer familiar with social media best practices to assist in the monitoring of and engagement with the community through Twitter.

This position reports to EJ Fowler.

DUTIES:

  • Fosters communication and motivation on Twitter.

  • Works with Marketing and Education to promote community activities and events.

  • Develops activities and guest events to increase visibility and engagement.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of The Writer's Workout internship program is strongly preferred.

  • Deep understanding of the Twitter platform and best practices a must.

  • Self-starter.

  • Demonstrates clear understanding of the purpose of The Writer's Workout.

  • Must be willing to donate time initially (until funding is available), about 7 hours per month.

  • Monitors and supports community through the Forum. 

  • Fosters a motivating environment and encourages participation/discussion about topics.

  • Successful completion of The Writer's Workout internship program is strongly preferred.

  • Deep understanding of social media best practices a must.

  • Self-starter.

  • Demonstrates clear understanding of the purpose of The Writer's Workout.

  • Must be willing to donate time initially (until funding is available), about 5-10 hours per month.
