Back to Basics

Back to Basics is a monthly mini-course designed to help you build a strong foundation in writing. Learn the rules so you know when, where, and how to break them to your story's benefit. Courses may occasionally highlight specific writing styles or genres where the focal topic is most commonly used (or over-used).

Each course includes a short video on our YouTube channel and the transcript on our blog

Back to Basics is free to all writers around the world and includes a challenge for you to try on your own. You're encouraged to share your efforts on our forum and across social media using the tag #WWB2B

Better Writer subscribers receive feedback for their challenge entries. Other submissions are reviewed where time allows.

March Challenge:

For this Back to Basics challenge, choose one of these characters and establish their backstory in around 1,000 words:

The Head Chef at a poorly-reviewed restaurant

A bus driver driving without a license

A college professor teaching a class where all the students hate them

You are welcome to submit your Back to Basics challenge. Please understand we prioritize Better Writer subscribers for feedback.
