Indie Author Spotlight, Episode 29

Hello! Jennifer Martin here! I'm a budding short story writer and a new volunteer at The Writer's Workout as well as a recent graduate. I have learned that breaking into the literary world can be daunting feat and so I am taking every opportunity to meet new and interesting people in the literary community, like today's guest Jill Bronfman.

Having her work published in over thirty literary journals, Jill Bronfman is making her novel debut in the literary world with her book, Thanks for Meeting Me Here. Make sure to check out her website and socials, which are linked below, so you don't miss out on any of her future work. I was very pleased with the opportunity to meet Jill. I know you will be too.

Hi Jill! Thanks so much for meeting with me today. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Like a lot of authors, I’ve had other lives and careers before becoming a full-time writer. I went back to school to get my MFA in Writing, Fiction, and finished in 2025. Before that, I had mostly published poetry and short fiction, and was trying to wrap my head around how people write this monster called the novel. The MFA got me through that and I wrote my first novel. It won two awards, but hasn’t been published yet. I’m waiting for the right contract for that one. And now my second novel is being published first!

Tell us about your writing style.

Thanks for Meeting Me Here is a novel about Gen Z and their lives in the future. It hits on serious themes that are not for children, but it’s pretty representative of my writing. I want people to think now about where society is heading.

Tell us about a project you’re proud of and link it.

Thanks for Meeting Me Here is available for pre-order at https://www.ravenchronicles.org/books/thanks-for-meeting-me-here?rq=bronfman. It won an award and was a finalist for another award and I think it not only has something to say, but also is a wild, fun read. Secrets will be revealed.

Spill the tea, what are you currently working on?

My third novel, tentatively titled Violet and the Volcano, is half-way done, if you compare it to my short second novel which is available for sales now, or like less than a third done if you compare it to my first novel, which was epic. Violet’s a character that’s maybe AI and maybe not, still working that out. And so is the guy that’s in love with her.

What is your biggest/best piece of advice for other Indie Authors?

Agents take forever. I’ve had some luck with contests, particularly with Raven Chronicles Press, my publisher. And write small. Like 250 words a day is fine.

Who is your favorite Indie Author?

Really I love whoever I’ve read last, but Nina Schuyler has been inspirational to me in her writing and her service to the literary community. I do a little volunteer work by reading submissions for a literary journal, but she’s like an organizer.

Where can someone find your work, social presence, etc. drop some links.

Easy to find on socials, too! Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
